| Dear Friends,
They were the people that lived in the neighborhood where you grew up.
A retired school teacher. An elderly neighbor. A local war hero.
They are still there but no one sees them anymore. They are all alone, some too frail to leave their homes. They are forgotten. And they are hungry.
But you and I see them and we care. Each day, volunteers from Meals on Wheels of Syracuse deliver nourishing meals and a caring hello to their homes and the homes of hundreds of others in your community.
For the past 52 years, Meals on Wheels of Syracuse has been preparing and delivering delicious and healthy meals to the homes of people who cannot get out and shop for or prepare their own meals. We have cared for the forgotten.
Hundreds of people invest their time and money because they know that without Meals on Wheels so many of our homebound neighbors would have no other alternative for meals. They would just not eat.
As one recipient explained in a letter, "I am not able to cook or get my own meals, so I depend on Meals on Wheels. I don't know how I could do without them."
This year, we served more than 180,000 meals to people in need. Next year we will serve many more meals because we must.
But, state and federal budget cuts for low income seniors and rising food and packaging costs have challenged us more than ever to meet our budget and keep meals affordable. I don't have to tell you. You see it when you do your shopping. Skyrocketing prices for milk, meat and produce, not to mention rising gas prices. It's no different for us.
This holiday season you can be a lifeline to seniors in need by joining the 20,000 Senior Meal Challenge sponsored by M&T Bank.
M&T Bank has generously committed to match a portion of your gift to the 20,000 Senior Meal Challenge, if you make your donation by December 31st.
Would you consider a meaningful donation of $15, $30 or more to support the Meals on Wheels mission? By doing so, you will know that your neighbors in need will not be forgotten. They will not go hungry. They will not be alone. What a wonderful holiday gift that would be for your vulnerable neighbors!
Someone in our community is forgotten and waiting for your help. Please be there by generously making your donation to Meals on Wheels today.
Warmest wishes,
Mason
